Take a trip to the past as we celebrate some of Chef Pat's best recipes from his 40 years cooking Italian food in Indianapolis, starting at The Italian Village in the late 1970s. Hitting memorable stops along the way such as Rudy & Rosa's, Viaveneto's, Arturo's and now Donatello's.

Donatello's will host "Blast from the Past: a Retro Wine Dinner to Benefit Chaucie's Place" on Monday Feb. 4. The event starts at 6 p.m. and likely will end before 9 p.m. There will be six courses (including appetizers and desserts) paired with wines that can be ordered by the bottle or case at the end of the night.

Going along with the throwback theme, guests can dress "retro" if they choose, with the theme of 1950s/60s inspired attire.

We'll keep the retro theme going by featuring some "Mad Men" inspired cocktails during the appetizer hour, such as gimlets, old fashioneds, mai tais and blue hawaiians. For those that prefer wine over cocktails, prosecco toasts will also be available.

We'll pair cocktail hour with classic appetizers such as fried carrots and toasted ravioli, one of the staples at Pat's first place of employment.

After about 30 minutes of socializing during the cocktail hour, we'll sit and enjoy our first course, Italian wedding soup (with hand rolled meatballs) paired with a Tuscan blend.

Next, we'll enjoy gnocchi a la vodka sauce. Vodka sauce was very popular after WWII in the United States and we'll be pairing this classic with a sauvignon blanc since its high acidity and citrus quality are a nice contrast to the richness of this dish.

We'll then feature a classic you don't see as often in modern Italian restaurants: Lingine with Clams. This will be paired with a medium-oaked California Chardonnay.

Our main dish will be steak pizziola. Tender ribeye with a sauce of tomatoes, garlic, onions and peppers. This will be paired with a bold dry Cabernet Sauvignon.

For dessert, we'll enjoy homemade spumoni ice cream by Chef Pat's son Adam, paired with a riesling.

Tickets will go for $110 each, but that includes a donation to Chaucie's Place, a Hamilton County based nonprofit that prevents child sex abuse and suicide. This is the third year in a row that Donatello's has held this event for Chaucie's Place.

Only 64 seats are available so book soon since spots will fill up. Tickets are non-refundable.
