Event description
Blanche Ames held a suffrage meeting at Borderland in 1915. We are celebrating Blanche in 2020 and reenacting that suffrage meeting.

About this Event

Blanche Ames, suffragist, activist, artist among other things was active in the suffragette movement in Massachusetts. She fought hard for the equality to vote for all women. When Blanche and other like-minded women in Massachusetts found out that the question of women’s suffrage was to be a ballot question on November 2, 1915, Blanche knew what she needed to do. On January 13, 1915, a snowy winter’s day, she gathered a lot of local women together in her library at Borderland to plot, plan and strategize to ensure that the ballot question would pass.

To celebrate Blanche and the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, Borderland State Park, in association with many local groups and organization will create a reenactment of Blanche’s January 13, 1915 suffrage meeting she hosted at Borderland. This unique, must experience reenactment will be free and open to the public. Registration is required and space is very limited. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For ages 8+. Rain or shine. For reasonable accommodations, please call Borderland at 508-238-6566.

After the reenactment, take a sign or make a sign and parade around the mansion for equality and a photo to remember your experience. Together we will celebrate Blanche and the centennial of the 19th amendment at Borderland.

This event is co-sponsored by the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Friends of Borderland, a non-profit organization, Southeast STEM Network, AAUW (South Shore and Taunton area branches), Brockton Public Library, Easton Historical Society, Easton Public Schools, North Easton Machine, Shovel Town Cultural District (Easton) and many more.
