Event description

Description

This class will cover blade smithing from start to finish. This will include forge safety and operation, basic forging techniques (heating, drawing out, edge bevels, etc.), grinding and sanding, heat treatment, and finishing. Due to the length and nature of the class we will stretch this out over 3-4 sessions one week apart (likely Sundays though this may change based on participant’s schedules). The intent is to give participants plenty of time to work through each stage of the blade making process at their own pace and in between instructive sessions.

Required materials:

  • Safety glasses
  • A railroad spike (preferably one with the letters HC on the head)
  • Some work gloves
  • A basic file set
  • Plenty of liquids (beer is welcome)

Optional Materials:

  • Personal smithing hammer (usually you want a 2-3 pound cross peen hammer)
  • Angle grinder and discs
  • Respirator mask

If you have any trouble finding any of the required materials feel free to contact me and I can point you in the right direction.

I apologize for any issues that may arise with tickets through eventbrite as I have never used this platform before. As of right now I will accept 3 participants per class, but exceptions can be made for spouses or children.
