Event description

Events: 5K & 1-Mile Run/Walk

Host: The Aruna Project, a US non-profit dedicated to freeing, empowering, and employing sexually enslaved women in India.

Why Run or Walk? Run or walk for an enslaved woman by name whom the Aruna Project staff personally know and are working to free from the brothels. Thanks to local race sponsors covering race expenses, 100 percent of registration fees and donations goes to bring and sustain freedom to women in desperate need of new beginnings.

Race Giveaways: Each race participant will receive an athletic drawstring backpack hand-made by free Aruna Artisans and a finisher medal. Register early -- the first 120 participants will also receive a t-shirt.

Registration Options: There are two ways to register:

  1. Online until March 30 at 4:00 p.m.

  2. Race day starting at 8:00 a.m.

Fees: One-hundred percent goes to free, empower, and employ!

  • January 26 – February 15: Early-bird discount! $20 students; $25 non-students

  • February 16 – March 30: $25 students, $30 non-students

  • Race Day: $30 students, $35 non-students

Post-Race Celebration: Celebrate the completion of your run at our massive finish line afterparty - The Color War 2019! Color War is an annual event hosted by the Indian Students Association to celebrate the Indian festival of colors called Holi. And this year, let's celebrate it together

Our colors are all made of food grade cornstarch with FDA approved colors that wash off the skin easily.

Color War

  • Both races start at 9:00 a.m. Packet pickup and walk-up registration opens at 8:15 a.m.

  • Color War will be held immediately following the race from 11:00 a.m. - 1 :00 p.m.

Are walkers welcome?

Of course! Whether walking or running, we are all out there for the same goal -- to raise funds to help bring freedom to the sexually enslaved.

Are dogs welcome?

We love our furry four-legged friends, but they will not be permitted at the race due to safety concerns.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Nope! As long you can cover the distance, we welcome all ages to participate. Parents are welcome to push kids in strollers too.

Can I update my registration information?

We all make mistakes and things change. So yes, you can update your registration information.

Is my registration fee transferrable?

Unfortunately, no. But if you cannot join us for the race, we will still make every effort to ensure you get your race giveaway items. Contact Shreya Ahuja at ashreya@vt.edu to make arrangements to pick them up.

And the good news is 100% of your registration fee goes directly towards the cause of freeing, empowering, and employing enslaved women. So even if you can't join us, your money will still make an impact.

Is it okay if the name on my registration doesn't match the person who attends?

Unfortunately, no. We need all registrations to match the person who attends the race for timing and legal purposes.
