The Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library (Rose Library) at Emory University is pleased to announce the symposium, “Blacks on the Left” (May 31-June 1, 2019). The plenary speakers will be Michael C Dawson and Keith Gilyard. Dr. Dawson is John D. MacArthur Professor of Political Science and the College at the University of Chicago, and author of Blacks In and Out of the Left (2013) and Not in Our Lifetimes: The Future of Black Politics (2011). Dr. Gilyard is Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of English and African American Studies at Penn State, author of two recent monographs on prominent civil rights activists whose papers are held by the Rose Library: Louise Thompson Patterson: A Life of Struggle for Justice (2017) and John Oliver Killens: A Life of Black Literary Activism (2010).
