Event description

Description

"Trauma Informed Education (ACEs 101) & the Role of Resiliency" Workshop

Toxic stress through Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) damages a developing brain and can set children on a path of negative consequences. In this workshop, we will learn the basics about ACEs and what can be done.

Workshop outcomes include:

  • Understanding how ACEs affect a developing brain

  • Understanding how to overcome ACEs through resiliency

  • Learning about county-wide ACEs training and other efforts in Minnesota to raise awareness and understanding among educators and community service providers

Workshop Presenter

Tom Gonzalez has his Bachelor's and Master’s degrees from Crown College in Pastoral Ministry and Church Leadership, respectively, and is currently working on his doctorate at Bethel Seminary researching ACEs and their effects on resiliency.

"Trauma Informed Education (ACEs 101) & the Role of Resiliency" is the second in a series of quarterly workshops as part of a year-long "Blacks, Believers & the Montessori Way" community awareness and empowerment campaign. The first workshop held in September 2019 entitled, "Montessori Roots, Historical Truths," explored the connection between Montessori pedagogy and African ethos, culture and practices. The third and fourth workshops will take place in the spring and summer of 2020.

Registration

There is a "requested registration fee" for those who are able to pay to help cover workshop expenses. For those who cannot afford the registration fee at this time, the workshop is free, but pre-registration is required. Space is limited, so we encourage you to register early and please be sure to show up.
