Event description

Description

Blackout poetry meshes visual art with writing. Participants will learn blackout poetry, acrylic paint, and collage techniques. Then, using a choice of stencils and text from magazines, medical consent forms, journal pages, etc., create a one of a kind piece. All neccessary supplies will be provided but workshop participants are encouraged to bring any specific texts or small found objects they would like to incorporate into their artwork.

This free workshop accompanies the exhibit SEA-ART-HEAL, a month long exhibit at the A/NT Gallery in Seattle.

Infertility (IF) has been described as a culturally stigmatizing and invisible disease. The public is invited to "SEA-ART-HEAL" an innovative and emotionally provoking art exhibit portraying the realities, pains and joys of living with IF. Curated by The ART of Infertility, this exhibit breaks the silence around reproductive grief and pushes back against common misconceptions. Come witness the silenced stories of infertility, told through art.

The free exhibit is funded in part by the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture and sponsored by Pacific NW Fertility, Seattle Reproductive Medicine, Acupuncture Northwest and Associates, Embryo Options, and the A/NT Gallery (located at 305 Harrison Street, next to Key Arena in the Seattle Center International Pavilion). It will feature artwork, portraits, and stories portraying experiences of infertility. ParentMap and The Stranger are media sponsors of the event. Our Community Partners are Baby Quest Foundation, Fertility Walk Hope Fund, and The Footsteps for Fertility Foundation.
