Event description

Description

Black Women in Art is a collaborative event series by The Queenpin PGH and The Thirsty Mind Collective, focused on the importance of empowering feminine voices of color in the art community. The purpose of this event series is to inspire diversity, create space and an elevated platform for women minority artists, and to build a community invested in the advancement of cultural relevance as it relates to art and other forms of creativity.

This event series is essential to growing our culture in Pittsburgh as it will provide an avenue of expression for often overlooked and suppressed perspectives.

The first event of the series is molded around paint on canvas and will feature work by Pittsburgh artists Ashante Josey, Morgan Overton, and Naomi Chambers, in a one night only art exhibit and panel discussion.

The artists will be be joined by experts on inclusion including, Tara Fay Coleman, Dr. Lisa Lopez Levers, and Dr. Cheryl Hall-Russell about the impact of black, feminine voices and it’s pertinance in the further development of the art world. We will also be welcoming Penn Hills NAACP Chapter President, Dr. Amy Alexander, as our moderator for the evening.

*All proceeds benefint The Queenpin PGH’s Get Out + Vote initiative, and the 2020 Thirsty Mind Collective scholarship fund*
