Join Black Soil: Our Better Nature hosts, Trevor and Ashley, as they continue connecting you with Kentucky's black farmers/growers/producers. During the "off season" from harvesting and producing crop, we want to introduce you to opportunities for personal growth provided by farming.

Pick-Your-Own activity from October 22 farm tour at Barbour's Farm

Meet us at Wild Fig Coffee and Books, as we explore and answer:

  • Why is knowing how to grow my own food connected to my quality of life?
  • How can I get started in farming?
  • What financial opportunities are available for my family through farming?
  • Who are farmers I can buy directly from?
  • What agencies exist to help me get my operation going?

Facilitated by Teheran Jewell (pictured below) of Kentucky State University Extension and owner of Taste of Jewell Farms (Bowling Green) and Andre Barbour of Barbour's Farm (Canmer). Strike up a conversation with special guests, featured black Kentuckians living as farmers/growers/producers, on how farming changed their life.

A very special thank you to Ron and Crystal, owners of Wild Fig Coffee and Books. Did you know they represent 1 of the 54 black owned bookstores in America? We're excited to support their efforts as we elevate our black farmers/growers/producers in Kentucky.
