FAQs
What is Kalakuta DC? How do I find the venue?
Kalakuta DC is a name we have made up for the night. We are taking over a pop-up space that used to be an old CVS in the Rhode Island Shopping Center. Google Maps has a hard time finding the space so even though the building number is 660 we suggest using either "680 Rhode Iskand Ave, NE" or "Rhode Island Shopping Center" in your mapping app. There will be signs on the Rhode Island Ave for where to turn into the plaza.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Yes, this is a 21+ event. Everyone will be required to show state-issued ID or passport to enter the event.
Can I buy tickets at the door?
Yes you can. We will be taking cash and cards for those who want to purchase at the door. The day of price is $20 and will end online at 9PM. The $20 price will stay as is for the rest of the night.
Will drinks be available?
Yes! We will have non-alcoholic and alcoholic options. You will have to purchase drink tickets at the door and use those at the bar. We will be accepting cash and card payments.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
The venue is located in a shopping plaza, so free parking and street parking are available. The venue is also accessible from the metro station via footbridge. Uber and Lyft services are also easy options.
Are you looking for vendors?
Yes, we are! African-centered and inspired wares are welcome. Click here to submit a vendor inquiry and a member of the team will get back to you in 2-3 business days, if you are selected.
Are you painting faces on site? How do I participate in the Queens' Stroll?
No face painting on site, but a style guide with suggestions is available here. The Queens' Stroll will be announced around 11PM. See the style guide for details.
