The Alliance Française of Washington, DC will be hosting Dr. Tristan Cabello (Johns Hopkins University) and Dr. Pap Ndiaye (Sciences Po Paris) for a discussion on Black Lives Matter movement in France and the USA.
About the speakers
Tristan Cabello
Dr. Tristan Cabello is a historian of American cultures and politics. His research examines social movements, with a focus on the intersection of race, sexuality, and politics. He is currently completing a book on Black Lives Matter, and teaches history and critical theory at Johns Hopkins University.
Pap Ndiaye
Dr. Pap Ndiaye is a Professor of History at Sciences Po (Paris, France). His areas of interest are the history and sociology of African Americans and people of African descent in France. He has published the following books: La Démocratie en Amérique au XXe siècle (with Jean Heffer and François Weil), Belin, 2000; Nylon and Bombs: Du Pont and the March of Modern America, Johns Hopkins University Press, 2007; La Condition noire : essai sur une minorité française, Calmann-Lévy, 2008; Les Noirs américains : en marche pour l'égalité, Gallimard, 2009; Histoire de Chicago (with Andrew Diamond), Fayard, 2013; Le Modèle noir : de Géricault à Matisse, Musée d'Orsay/Flammarion, 2019. His upcoming book on the history of voting rights in the U.S. will be published in the spring.
