Come celebrate the continent of Africa with us! Attendees will experience a drumming workshop, art, food, music and much more!

About this Event

The 8th annual Black History Month event, celebrating Africa, the continent, includes the WABSE Spoken Word and Art Show, drumming workshop by Sankofa African Dance and Drum Ensemble, food and crafts vendors, kids activities, New Rochelle High School Planetarium visits, book sales, authors signing books, student performances and more. Every school in the City School District of New Rochelle will be represented and all families are invited! Food vendors include, Chef El Amin, Andrea's Caribbean, My Hands My Tools. Crafts vendors include Ashanti fields, Crystal 3 Creations, Baobab Spa, Cecelia Newkirk, Ebonifandangles, Mpenzi Shop, My Hands My Tools, Yummblebees, African Arts and Crafts - Constance Mack. Travel vendor is Overton Travel. Book sales by The Voracious Reader. Authors include Michael Eaddy, Luis Quiros, Shenequa Pierre, Gavin Curtis. Community Partners representing the New Rochelle Federation of United School Educators (NR FUSE), NAACP, New Rochelle Council on the Arts (NRCA) and the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence (NRFEE), Roberto's Pizza & Pasta.

Students, faculty and community members will be honored. All are welcome to the New Rochelle High School, Whitney M. Young Rotunda. Doors open at 3pm and the art show and kids activities are FREE.

Stay around for dance, drumming, singing and spoken word performances by students of the City School District of New Rochelle. Sankofa African Dance and Drum Ensemble, with Maxwell Kofi Donkor who will open the show in The Whitney M. Young Auditorium and DJ SMITHYBOY will entertain throughout. All performances start at 6pm. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Performers attend free of charge. All proceeds go to scholarships.

The day is over at 7:30pm and promises to be a great experience for all!
