The Feature Documentary

"The Language You Cry In" Directed by Angel Serrano, Alvaro Toepke, with Vertamae Grosvenor.

"The Language You Cry In" tells an amazing scholarly detective story that searches for -and finds- meaningful links between African Americans and their ancestral past. It bridges hundreds of years and thousands of miles from the Gullah people of present-day Georgia back to 18th century Sierra Leone. It recounts the even more remarkable saga of how African Americans have retained links with their African past through the horrors of the middle passage, slavery, and segregation.

The program also includes the following shorts:

- Pine Knot Farms: Organic Farming in Hurdle Mills, NC

Pine Knot Farms has been in Stanley Hughes' family for over 100 years. He tells us his story and how organic agriculture has never been more important.

- Black Farmer UK

Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones self proclaims to be Britain's only black farmer. Originally from Birmingham, he is causing a stir in its conservative countryside. Growing up in a ghetto, "the expectation was you were going to end up in society's dustbin." As a child, he took refuge in his parent’s allotment. Now with 14 acres in Devon, he admits "you have to have a pioneering spirit" to survive.

- South Africa

Land expropriation without compensation in South Africa
