Event description
The Black Fashion Extra by definition cannot exist without inclusiveness and cultural equity.

About this Event

The Black Fashion Extra by definition cannot exist without inclusiveness and cultural equity. Our project’s mission depends upon representation of a multiplicity of black perspectives.

The jury members reviewing applicants will be chosen to represent a range of different ethnic, gender, age, and socioeconomic views. In turn, the selected participants will reflect cultural equity by mirroring similarly wide-ranging demographics.

Our participants, arriving from different places within the Austin community, will not only engage with each other within the collective, but will take the knowledge they gain and the questions that are raised back into their families and community groups, affecting a community-wide discussion about Black Fashion and the fashion Industry.

This industry is a multi-billion dollar international concern, and is often an exclusive system, not open to the average citizen. All average citizens, however, wear clothes: whether we get our clothes at exclusive boutiques, at big a mall stores, or at a thrift shop, we participants in fashion. Black Fashion Extra seeks to promote inclusiveness by breaking through boundaries between consumers and the forces of the fashion industry, and through the work of our collective, to empower individual citizens to have more insights into an agency regarding a topic that literally touches their body, their skin, on an everyday basis.
