Black Creativity Clay Workshop at BLISS Meadows: Creating a space to gather and celebrate Black creativity through ceramics!
About this event
Join lead ceramicist and organizer Victoria Walton at Bliss Meadows this July! We will be working outdoors and will learn the basics of hand built ceramics. Beginners welcome! With a variety of programming and guest instructors, we will be offering a series of three, Black-only, ceramics workshops. We will be using minimal tools to build and decorate functional and sculptural works of art. We look forward to seeing you there!
Session One: Vessels (July 3rd)
- Cups, bowls, vessels. We’re starting with the basics of what you need to know to create simple functional works you can use every day.
Session Two: Sculptural Workshop with Aaron Caldwell (July 17th)
- Get ready for the best of both worlds. In this workshop, Victoria Walton and Aaron Caldwell will demonstrate different methods of making sculptures. Victoria focuses on transforming flat pieces of clay into primary shapes for the figure, while Aaron coil builds to create zoomorphic forms. Instructors will assist participants as they determine their style of choice.
Session Three: Community Event and Artwork Pick Up (July 24th)
- Bring your friends and pick up your fired ceramic creations! Enjoy some music, grab some clay, create, and watch our three lead ceramicists show off their skills. Be ready to celebrate. Adults only please!
The price of this workshop includes all materials and the firing of your pieces. COVID waivers and media consent waivers are required to attend. Masks are recommended. Any questions concerning the content of this workshop please email Victoria directly at: victoriawaltonart@gmail.com
