Description
Every first Wednesday of the month, we invite you to The Bronzeville Incubator for an evening to help us honor Black stories by showcasing and supporting local Black filmmakers. This month we will be screening two short films by Talia Koylass and Tyler Myles of the Motion/Pictures Dance Project, The Good Christian and Better Off Dead.
The Good Christian is a dance film that addresses religion and spirituality in the Black Community from both historical and present day vantage points. It explores how Black people have used something that often tries to exclude them as a way to deal with suffering and oppression. Spirituality looks different on everyone but still has the potential to be inclusive and used as a source of joy and discovery.
Talia Koylass is a New York-based dancer and dance filmmaker. Her choice to combine these mediums stems from the capability of the lens to guide the audiences' experience of strong choreographic ideas. She is dedicated to pushing the boundaries and potential these mediums in collaboration with each other. Her work is comprised of powerful images that create narratives, convey emotions, ask questions, inspire thinking, and challenge us in our everyday lives.
Join Us! Snacks and beverages and specialized merchandise will be available for purchase throughout the night.
