About this event

Bitch is turning 25, and as a completely independent and unabashedly feminist media outlet, well—it’s a big deal! So join us on Thursday, October 21 as we celebrate Bitch’s 25th anniversary with a virtual party and fundraiser sponsored by Bookshop.

The evening will include a round of feminist trivia with members of the Bitch Board of Directors, a reading by Roxane Gay, a sneak peek of Therese Shechter’s film, "My So-Called Selfish Life," and a talk by feminist internet trailblazer Veronica Arreola. Attendees will also get a chance to meet some of their fellow Bitch community in themed break-out rooms hosted by longtime friends of Bitch: Kristen Arnett, Emilly Prado, Sarah Mirk, and more!

We couldn't have made it to 25 years without our community, so the event is free to the public (just be sure to reserve your spot because we are capping capacity!) But we are suggesting a donation of $30 along with your RSVP to help us reach a $10,000 fundraising goal for the evening!

So we hope you'll join us for an evening of reminiscing, celebration, and community.

On the Bitch Stage:

  • Feminist trivia led by Bitch Media Board of Directors president, Alisha Bhagat;
  • A reading by Roxane Gay;
  • A clip of Therese Shechter's film, "My So-Called Selfish Life" + director chat;
  • Where feminism has been and where it's going, with Veronica Arreola;

+

Choose A Break-Out Room to Mingle In:

  • Mix a Bitch-inspired cocktail with author Kristen Arnett;
  • Participate in a free-writing exercise with author (and former Bitch intern!) Emilly Prado;
  • Learn how to speed-sketch a comic with former Bitch online editor and Popaganda host Sarah Mirk;
  • Take a virtual tour of The People’s Graphic Design Archive (plus a chance to submit to the archive!) with Briar Levit;
  • Join story doula Lily Be as she uses her storytelling card game URLife to connect all the participants in the room through stories. We will create a Story Neighborhood by sharing and listening to stories, and by the end, we will see that no one is an island and that stories connect us all;
  • Learn how to make horchata de arroz with Mi Xantico's Sewa Yuli;
  • Join artist Mel Dominguez & Melissa Brown-Dominguez of Galeria Mitotera as you learn how to create paper marigolds, also known as the cempasúchil, which are often found on Dia de los Muertos altars.
