Event description

Description

The University of Hawaii West O’ahu is offering a free 2-day BIT Foundation training. This training is available by invitation only.

In the wake of the 2007 Virginia Tech Massacre when 32 individuals were murdered, many institutions around the nation became vigilant when a commissioned report exposed decentralized systems that should have been communicating concerns on the campus more effectively.

This training will help participants to:

  • Understand how Behavior Intervention Teams (BITs) became a national best practice;

  • Understand the importance of laying the proper foundation for your own campus BIT;

  • Understand the importance of team structures/functions, manuals, and protocols;

  • Understand some basic legal considerations fundamental to BITs;

  • Understand the use of a "risk rubric;"

  • Gain insight into important mental health perspectives; and

  • Experience basic scenario-based threat assessment training (with the assistance of some current UH West O`ahu BIT members).

Participants will receive a certificate of completion from UH West O`ahu if participants attend and completes BOTH training days.

This training is by invitation only and will be held on Monday, December 16th and Tuesday, December 17th, 2019, from 8 AM to 4:30 PM on both dates. Training will be on the UH West Oahu campus (Room: TBD check eventbrite for update information).

Lunch is on your own; light snacks will be provided. Please park in the visitor stalls. Parking is free.
