Suitable for Key Stage 1 & 2 (ages 5 to 11)

This session explores the Marks in Time Exhibition and vintage biscuit tins and packaging from our archive collection to help children understand the nature and purpose of food packaging and design their own biscuit packaging. Children at KS2 will also consider why it is important to consider recycling when designing packaging. This session is for ages 5 to 11 and activities in the session will vary in ability to ensure everyone can participate.

Learning Objectives:

- To understand the nature and purpose of food packaging

- To recognise key design elements and extend desing related vocabulary

- To design biscuit packaging for M&S, combining design elements and persuasive language

- To understand why recycling is importantand how we can all play an active role in helping the planet (KS2)

- To have fun


Please let us know in advance if your child has any specific learning or access needs

The session includes tasting biscuits made with wheatflour, milk, soya, oats and oatmeal or gluten-free biscuits. Please let us know in advance if your child has any allergies and we will try to provide an alternative.


There is a maximum number of 20 places per session.

The minimum requirement for each session is 14 children, otherwise we regret that the session will be cancelled and we will notify everyone who had booked.
