Birth Trauma Basics
Fri, March 24, 2017, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM CDT
Birth Trauma is real for many mothers. Our current system of maternaity care focusses on the physical health of the mother and baby and efficient labor and deliveries. The experience of giving birth impacts a woman and family emotionally, relationally, spiritually and physically. There are many reasons that a woman may feel traumatized by her birth, even if the birth seems typical and ends with a healthy mother and healthy baby The impacts of birth trauma can affect the bonding of mother and infant, connection between partners, future reproductive history and the woman's identity.
In this workshop, you will learn about the interventions that can impact a woman's feelings about her birth, potential risk factors, and the impact of words and actions during the birth time. As Birth Professionals, we have a unique opportunity to provide emotional and physical support and to help reduce the risk of birth trauma.
You will also learn what to do if your client experiences a traumatic birth You will learn ideas to share with your clients about self-care, tips and ideas for supporting clients in a professional capacity and learning more about local resources and making appropriate referrals when needed.
