Event description

Description

We are delighted to bring our highly regarded expert SEND workshops to Birmingham!

We are excited to introduce you to our full team of experts in the field of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. By the end of the day you will be very well equipped to progress with the next stage of your SEND journey.

We will be joined by our Head of SEND Marguerite Haye and SEND Law experts HCB Solicitors, along with our specialist team that include a Speech & Language Therapist (Small Talk Speech & Language Therapy), an Occupational Therapist (Seirrah Occupational Therapy) and an Educational Psychologist.

We will cover all you need to know about EHCPs & SEND Law, along with the three key areas of assessment for EHCPs and how each specialist area can help your child:

Educational Psychology

  • What is Educational Psychology?
  • And how can an Educational Psychologist help my child?
  • What do assessments and reports entail?

Speech & Language Therapy

  • My child can speak fine, so why does he need a Speech & Language assessment?
  • What is a S&L assessment?
  • How can S&L therapy benefit my child to reduce their anxiety?

Occupational Therapy

  • What is a sensory assessment?
  • What do I do if my child has sensory processing difficulties?
  • How can I get OT support for my child?

By the end of the day you will understand:

  • How to apply for an EHCP and how the law supports your child
  • How Local Authority policy differs to the law, and why that's good news for your child
  • How you can successfully gain what your child needs regardless of what services are commissioned locally
  • What assessments you can ask for as part of the EHC Needs assessment
  • What assessments entail
  • What each area of expertise means - ie, if my child can speak, why does he need a Speech & Language assessment?
  • How to ensure your child's needs are properly documented so that the support they receive is legally binding
  • How to get consistent therapies and support from a specialist setting funded by the local authority

We will answer your questions, too, so be sure to bring them!
