Event description

Description

Meet Ms. Q! Ms. Q is a young Crested Caracara from Florida, just about two years old. Her wing was permanently injured and so she cannot be released back into the wild. She has been rescued by the Aviary Rehabilitation Center for Raptors. She is just one of the many birds we hope to share with you on our photo field trip to ARC.

ARC for Raptors is a rescue and rehabilitation center which receives NO state or federal funding. A portion of the ticket price for this event goes toward their continued care. It is staffed primarily by volunteers who participate because of their love for these beautiful birds.

We will meet at ARC in Apopka, FL from 12pm until 2pm for photography and education with these powerful creatures.

Our meet and greet will include about a dozen species, including all the indigenous Florida owl species (with the exception of a Burrowing Owl), Red-tailed and Short-tailed Hawks, and possibly a Red-shouldered Hawk, Peregrine Falcon and American Kestrel (male and female), Crested Caracara and Bald Eagle. We may also have an opportunity to see a Swallow-tailed Kite, and the Black Vulture may be available for a short period of time.

These birds will be tethered for safety, but with a handler or on perches, not in cages or behind fences. Weather and health permitting, we may also see a flight demonstration of either a Red-shouldered or Red-tailed Hawk.

We are thrilled to be able to get up close with these raptors, and we know you will enjoy this experience.

Suggested gear: camera with a telephoto lens, polarizing filter (optional), tripod or monopod (as necessary), bottled water, hat, comfortable clothes and shoes.
