Bird Nest Box Project - Annual Orientation Meeting

By The Land Conservancy of SLO County

Overview

Come meet veteran volunteers, hear important project updates, and learn about how you can become a member of the team.

The Bird Nest Box Project is managed by Learning Among the Oaks, a program of the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County. This project installs, cares for, and monitors bird nest boxes at several sites in San Luis Obispo County to support healthy bird populations for cavity nesting bird species including the Western Bluebird.

From March through August each year, our team of bird enthusiasts visit the nest boxes weekly to gather data on box use and provide maintenance as needed. Last season, our boxes provided the necessary shelter for 70 baby birds to be hatched and successfully fledged.

Project volunteers will sign up for weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly shifts to monitor the boxes, an activity that takes about 30-60 minutes and is best done with a small group. This project is great for families and we welcome youth of all ages to participate in partnership with adult family and friends. Come to the meeting to learn all the details. We look forward to welcoming you to the 2026 Bird Nest Monitoring team!
