PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

For people living with bipolar disorder, it takes an average of ten years from their first mood swing, to the time bipolar disorder is finally discovered and treated. Typically, bipolar people will have suffered through years of substance abuse, broken relationships, or self-destructive acts of all kinds. Misidentifying bipolar disorder can lead to treatment failures, with often tragic results. Don't let this happen to you--or your clients.
Attend this seminar and find solutions to this pervasive problem. You will learn how to assess for bipolar against other DSM-5® disorders and build a comprehensive treatment plan that focuses on this chronic mental illness.
Once only believed to be the domain of medication prescribers, now therapists of all disciplines can diagnose and treat bipolar disorder effectively. By using the individual and family interventional techniques from this seminar, along with promoting on-going
education and therapeutic care for all involved, you’ll find greater success treating
bipolar in your practice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. The genetic and neurobiological etiology of bipolar disorder
2. Differential diagnosis algorithms to distinguish bipolar from other mental disorders
3. Effective stabilization plans to treat mood swings first
4. Specific therapeutic techniques to work-through the denial associated with having a life-long mental illness
5. The psychopharmacology of bipolar, and how the wrong meds can trigger bipolar mania while the right ones can improve therapy outcomes
6. Common factors of bipolar treatment resistance and self-destructive/high-risk behaviors
7. Therapy and educational approaches for the spouses, parents and adult-children of people with bipolar.
