Course Description:  Over the past 35 years the rehabilitation and sports arenas have come to understand two types of taping. First was Rigid Taping, using LeukoTape or White sports tape, to restrict movement to reduce irritation and damage associated with common injuries like ankle and wrist sprains. More popular in recent years has been Kinesiology Taping, using elastic cotton 2-way stretching tape to lift the skin to provide benefits for pain relief and swelling, through the opening of lymphatic channels and altered proprioception. Biomechanical Tape is a fundamentally new product and methodology of address dysfunction. Biomechanical Tape is made from 4-way stretching nylon with a very strong recoil, similar to that of a bungee cord. The tape is placed in a shortened position to allow the tape to reduce force on the muscles and tendons, overall to improve function, movement patterns, and decrease work load. This methodology fills in the gap between tapes that either stop movement or only lift the skin.

This revolutionary new product and system of taping utilizes a two tiered biomechanical taping approach. One tape, Dynamic Tape, is more viscoelastic and has a strong recoil at end range, stretching to over 200%. The other tape, Dynamic Tape Eco, absorbs load earlier in stretch, more appropriate for ligamentous conditions is made from recycled plastic bottles. The combination of tapes, along with adjusting force using a technique known as a Powerband, allows the clinician to determine how much force to offload, in what direction, and at the appropriate time during range of motion.  Whether it is a tendinopathy, torn muscle, plantar fascia irritation, or even an unstable shoulder, Biomechanical Taping provides clinicians with another phenomenal tool to rehabilitation success.
