Description

Part of our Core Knowledge Series

Required* You must have attended an Intro to Biolab Workshop or have previous experience*

Modern genetics, molecular biology, and synthetic biology all revolve around our ability to manipulate DNA. So how do we get pure DNA and make sure we have enough of it to work with? This workshop will teach you how to perform two routine techniques allowing you to isolate and amplify DNA.

Participants will extract their own genomic DNA from their cheek cells and amplify one gene of interest. We will cover the process of DNA amplification by learning theory and techniques for polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Because PCR takes several hours to run, PCR results will be uploaded as a photo and emailed to participants. Participants are encouraged to come in at a later date to view as well.

Our Core Knowledge Series offers a guided introduction to common techniques that allow us to work with DNA. These workshops are the foundation necessary to learn molecular cloning, synethic biology, modern genetics, and forensic biology. They include DNA Isolation + PCR; Restriction Digest + Gel Electrophoresis; & Bacterial Transformation

Participants are required to read and sign the Inworks Terms of Use and General Safety Rules.
