Event description

Description

Take your veggie gardening skills to the next level with Harry Wykman. On his weekend course you will explore this ecologically sound and comprehensive approach to intensive food production.

The biointensive method of food production was developed from a synthesis of French intensive methods and biodynamics. It has been developed by Ecology Action for the past 30 years. The goal of Ecology Action is to develop a method that provide humans with adequate calories and nutrients while conserving land and resources. The workshop will cover the theory and history of biointensive gardening and practical demonstrations in the skills and techniques of intensive food production including:

planning your garden for high yields
basic seedling raising techniques for robust healthy plants
garden bed preparation and soil fertility
planting techniques for efficient gardening and high yields

Harry currently works at Perth City Farm and is an experienced compost-maker, gardener and educator. Harry interned in Aoteroa New Zealand with Jodi Roebuck and has spent the last several years developing small urban farms, producing food for local markets. Jodi Roebuck trained with John Jeavons at Ecology Action, California where the biointensive method was and is being developed.
