Biodynamic Farming 101 & Wine Tasting
Saturday, October 16, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM (PDT)
Los Angeles, CA
Biodynamic® Farming & Wine
Think you were doing your eco-conscious duty when you shelled out extra cash for that bottle of organic petite sirah? Think again. Since organic farming has made its way into the mainstream, its fundamentals have been diluted into something that can scarcely be described as sustainable. Not to worry, because the fourth installment of FoodStuff LA is offering up an alternative form of agriculture that harks back to the original, more purist principles of organic farming. An evening of biodynamic wine tasting will put the exceptional quality and taste of biodynamic agriculture on display.
The event will take place on Saturday, October, 16th at LA’s newest enomatic wine bar, Swill Automatic at the Biscuit Lofts in Los Angeles. Tickets are $40 and include a sampling of light appetizers from the forthcoming Swill Automatic menu. Elizabeth Candelario from Demeter USA, the worldwide organization that certifies all biodynamic® Agriculture will be hosting the event and talking about the history, purpose and meaning behind the farm craze and how it differs from traditional and organic farming.
All wines featured at the event will be sourced from Demeter certified vineyards. Guests will be introduced to Yellow+Blue Wines, so named because the two colors together make green- as in “environmentally conscious, forward thinking and committed to positive change” according to founder Matthew Cain. Y+B’s Malbec, coming from one of just two biodynamic wineries in South America, is expected to be received with much enthusiasm. Quivira Vineyards and Winery of Sonoma County will present its notable 2007 Red Zinfandel. Taste various award-winning wines, relax, eat and mingle with Elizabeth Candelario of Demeter and other food and wine enthusiasts and learn why Biodynamic® is all the rage among vintners the world over.
Biodynamic® Farming or Agriculture is the new (old) organic, and foodies who recognize and appreciate high-quality are buzzing about the superior taste of Biodynamic® products. Biodynamic® originated out of the work of Rudolf Steiner, the founder of Biodynamic Agriculture. So what is "Bio Ag" you ask? It's a method of organic farming that treats farms as unified and individual organisms, emphasizing and balancing the holistic development and interrelationship of soil, plants, and animals as a self-nourishing system without external inputs-true sustainable farming.
