Become a vital part of biodiversity conservation! Join our workshop to discover how to be a Citizen Scientist. Learn how to participate in a wide variety of surveys from pollinators to wildflowers, birds and mammals surveys and gain hand-on experience in conducting your own citizen science survey either within your community group, by yourself or with some friends.
The best part of this workshop happens outdoors, where you'll observe, identify, and record some of Wicklow's native species.
We want this day to be fun and fascinating, all about noticing Wicklow's nature and appreciating how important it is to us.
Please wear appropriate footwear and waterproof clothing.
The course is aimed at adults, supervised children are welcome however please be aware the workshop's topics may be less engaging for younger attendees.

A Citizen Scientist is someone who helps with scientific research by collecting or analysing data. In this workshop, you'll learn how to contribute directly to biodiversity conservation in Wicklow efforts by making important observations and recording data.
You'll gain practical skills for observing, identifying, and recording various native species in Wicklow, including pollinators, wildflowers, birds, and mammals. The workshop will also teach you how to conduct your own citizen science surveys and submit your data online to the National Biodiversity.
No prior experience is necessary! This workshop is designed for everyone, especially those new to citizen science. We'll provide all the guidance and training you need.
Since a large part of the workshop will be outdoors, please wear appropriate footwear and waterproof clothing. You will need a smartphone for submitting your observations to the National Data Centre. You might also want to bring a notepad and pen for notes.
