Binge Eating Disorder in PCOS and Beyond: Nutrition Therapy in the Trenches
Fri, May 5, 2017, 10:15 AM – 1:00 PM EDT
Please join us for a wonderful presentation!
Tammy Beasley, RDN, CEDRD, LD, CSSD, the National Coordinator of Nutrition Education for Castlewood Treatment Centers and Director of iaedp Certificationm will be presenting on binge eating disorder.
Binge eating disorder may be new to DSM-5, but certainly not new to the clinicians who treat eating disorders and the clients who struggle. Binge eating is often misunderstood – it isn’t just emotional eating. It isn’t just a compulsive behavior for those whose weight falls into a certain BMI category. The treatment of binge eating disorder is complicated by the very fact that it is not prejudiced – it is age, race, weight and gender-neutral. Treatment gets more complicated when it intersects with insulin resistance, infertility or combination of such within PCOS. This presentation will help clinicians understand the challenges of combining treatment of BED with these complications and recognize the alterations in brain reward circuitry that affect the treatment of BED in relationship to insulin resistance and PCOS. Creative nutrition therapy to stabilize physiological binge triggers, heal shame-based thinking and restore trust in food and body will be demonstrated.
Describe the connection between PCOS, infertility and binge eating disorder
Discuss current research on the effect of brain reward circuity and insulin resistance in clients with BED – with and without PCOS
List the challenges of combining treatment of BED with insulin resistance and PCOS
Identify creative nutrition therapy tools to strengthen client’s relationship with food and body in healing binge eating disorder complicated by insulin resistance and PCOS
