Event description

Description

Welcome to the 6th Annual Bike the Barn Quilts presented by ThedaCare, which was one of the top 10 bike events in Wisconsin per Travel Wisconsin 2016! There are rides for people of all ages and abilities. Registrations go to support programs and services of Shawano Pathways, whose mission is to promote tourism, economic growth, healthier living, family fun, and greater opportunities for exercise.

On September 29, 2018, eight scenic routes varying in distance from 5 to 70 miles will be offered. Beautiful quilt patterns are showcased and enhanced by the fall colors. Register for all events at Memorial Athletic Park in Shawano. Traffic control will be provided for the downtown areas and major intersections (these are not closed routes.)

Prices increase the closer it gets to the event. Early bird pricing ends on August 31, 2018. You’re required to check-in before beginning the ride. Check-in will be available at our Barn Dance on Friday, September 28, 2018 or at the event on Saturday, September 29, 2018. Search Eventbrite for additional details about our Barn Dance.

5 or 8 Mile - Family Fun Ride: Going west out of Shawano on the Mountain Bay Trail, you'll travel on MMM, Locust, Oak Avenue, and Peach Road. This is a nice ride for the novice rider. The route provides viewing of three barn quilts. (1 food station)

17 Mile - Richmond Ride: Traveling west on the Mountain Bay Trail will eventually bring Thornton followed by a beautiful stretch along the Red River. (2 food stations)

20 Mile - Belle Plaine Ride (Guided or Solo): Traveling south towards Cloverleaf Lakes you can see 20 barn quilts in 20 miles! The terrain is rolling. Use caution when riding on Highway 22. If you choose the guided ride, a knowledgeable guide will provide information on farm and quilt patterns at each of the stops. You'll have plenty of opportunities to take pictures. (2 food stations)

37 Mile - Gresham Ride: You'll pass 25 quilts on this route that travels north and west out of Shawano. After a steep hill, enjoy Gresham's downtown and some refreshments. Please be aware that this route includes riding on Highway 47 for approximately two miles. (2 food stations)

40 Mile - Bonduel Ride: Enjoy a few more hills than the Gresham route while taking in scenic vistas. This route is part of the 70 mile route and shares food stations in Cecil and Bonduel. (2 food stations)

50 Mile - Gresham Plus Ride: This route is based off the 37 mile Gresham route but has an additional loop to add miles of beauty. (3 food stations)

70 Mile - Pulaski Ride: This ride has the experienced biker in mind. You should be comfortable crossing and riding along major highways for short distances. There are more than 30 barn quilts for you to view as you travel along winding wooded roads around Shawano Lake, through scenic hilly farming country, past an Amish community, as well as Cecil, Pulaski, and Bonduel (4 food stations, with one being self-service)
