Event description
Our Mechanics 101 class is BACK! You'll leave this six-week course feeling confident in roadside repairs as well as at-home maintenance.

About this event

Bicycle mechanics can be intimidating at first. We'll break it down for you in this six-week course taught by Austin (with support from Kelly and Alex) to give you a better understanding of how your bike works, as well as the confidence to do basic repairs at home.

Classes are held at the shop once a week from 6 - 8 pm - register for either the Tuesday or Wednesday session. The shop will provide bikes for the first five classes, and the final class is just for you to tune up your own bike for the upcoming season. Check out our schedule:

Class 1: Intro (bicycle anatomy, fitting, fixing a flat) ... Nov 2 & 3

Class 2: Bearings (headset, bottom bracket, wheel hubs) ... Nov 9 & 10

Class 3: Wheels! ... Nov 16 & 17

NO CLASS WEEK OF THANKSGIVING

Class 4: Brakes ... Nov 30 & Dec 1

Class 5: Shifting ... Dec 7 & 8

Class 6: BYOBike for a supported "tune-up" session ... Dec 14 & 15

Class tuition is $250 for 12 hours of instruction (not including EventBrite fees.) Workshop tuition fees support Old Spokes Home's nonprofit mission to create access to bikes and the opportunities they provide for our community. Funding is available for interested students who cannot cover the tuition fee - please get in touch with Kelly: kelly@oldspokeshome.com.
