Big Spring Hike at J.T. Nickel Preserve (near Tahlequah)
Sat, April 29, 2017, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM CDT
Traverse the foothills of the Ozarks and splash through the pristine waters of Big Spring at J.T. Nickel Family Nature and Wildlife Preserve. Big Spring is the largest unaltered spring in the region, and lies in one of the most remote locales in the Oklahoma Ozark Mountains. The hike will take the group through an area of property that was successfully acquired since the preserve was established. The hike will then descend into the upper reaches of the Seven Springs watershed. Some areas of the 3-mile hike will be through narrow creek bottoms with rocky, uneven terrain that may include loose rocks and could require crossing through water on occasion. Bring a lunch, snacks, and plenty of water. Registration is required. Space is limited.
Length: 3 miles
