Event description
New Girls Network: Class of 2020

About this Event

WHEN: Tuesday, January 28, 5:30PM-8:00PM

WHERE: PwC, 101 Seaport Blvd.

Registration closes on January 22. Please read the mentor and mentee descriptions before registering. If you are interested in joining the event as a mentor, please reach out to Kasey Olson kolson@bigsister.org

WHAT: The New Girls Network has a mission to help young women (mentees) learn the skills to network, talk about their strengths, make connections, and support each other. The aim is to have mid and late-career women (mentors) share some of the many pathways they have traveled in their own careers, and to offer information on topics common to women in the workplace. The program is being sponsored by The Women's Foundation of Boston.

WHO: New Girls Network mentees are Big Sisters, Big Sister Boston staff and auxiliary board members, and young professionals in the Boston area who are interested in connecting with female professionals for guidance and inspiration. New Girls Network mentors are mid and late-career female professionals who provide guidance, inspiration, and support to young women who are in earlier stages of their career paths, many of whom are Big Sisters and Big Sister Boston staff and auxiliary board members.

HOW: Big Sister Boston will hold an annual speed mentoring event for new and recurring attendees. At this event, mentors will be stationed around a room, and mentees will have the opportunity to meet with the mentors of their choosing for a select amount of time. After the event, both mentors and mentees will be asked to select the top three women with whom they would like to be matched. Big Sister Boston will then connect mentors and mentees via email.

What is the commitment? We ask that both mentors and mentees commit to a one-year relationship. The terms of a mentor/mentee relationship are determined based on what works best for each match: how they communicate (email, phone, in-person), how often they communicate, and the content of that communication. They may stay matched beyond the one year commitment, and will also be invited to attend the next speed mentoring event to be matched with someone new.
