Event description

Description

Come along and hear two experts speak about the first Proton Therapy Unit in the Southern Hemisphere, which will be housed in SAHMRI 2 in South Australia. Proton Therapy is cutting-edge cancer treatment that has the ability to deliver radiation to destroy tumour targets and save organs.

The technology has the potential to be part of the cure for a significant number of cancers, whilst reducing the likelihood of side effects and complications from treatment. The technology has never been locally available, leaving cancer patients to seek expensive treatment in the United States of America or Europe.

Our experts will cover topics including:

  • What is Proton Therapy and how does it work?
  • Who is a candidate for Proton Therapy treatment?
  • What are the benefits of Proton Therapy?
  • Who does it help (i.e. types of cancer)?
  • What does it do?

This event is part of Big Science Adelaide held during National Science Week.

FAQs

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is no available on-site parking at SAHMRI. However, Wilson’s on Hindley Street will provide SAHMRI guests with a flat rate of $12 seven days a week for 12 hours per day, providing that they validate their ticket at reception prior to leaving the SAHMRI building. Other alternatives include parking at the Adelaide Convention Centre on North Terrace or at the Entertainment Centre (you can take the tram directly to the front of the SAHMRI facility). On-street parking is also available in nearby side streets.
