Big pharma: Your profits, our lives
Event Information
About this event
While millions of people are receiving COVID vaccines every week in countries like the US and the UK, the majority of countries in the global south have yet to receive a single dose. We’re facing a global vaccine apartheid.
As pharmaceutical corporations hold their AGMs in the coming weeks, the People’s Vaccine Alliance has invited the CEOs of some of the major vaccine companies to attend a public meeting with healthcare workers, vaccine volunteers and patients from around the world. We want the pharmaceutical companies to hear the testimonies of those who are directly affected by lack of access to the vaccines - and answer our questions on how they intend to improve global access.
This online event will be held on Wednesday 21st April, Midday EST / 5pm BST / 7pm EAT.
Speakers at the event:
- Eldred Tellis, a COVID-19 survivor based in Mumbai
- Katie Mellor, a COVID-19 vaccine volunteer in the UK
- Tom Onyango, a Community Health Worker supported by Amref Health Africa from the city of Kisumu, Kenya
- Izzie Jani-Friend, a Just Treatment leader and cystic fibrosis patient in the UK
The event will be Chaired by Vuyiseka Dubula, one of the young leading black African women leaders in social movements for human rights of people living with HIV in South Africa.
This event will be held online on zoom. We will send you a link to join before the event.
Through the monopolies they hold and their refusal to widely share the knowledge of how to make the vaccines, pharmaceutical companies are restricting the scale up of supply that we need to ensure that everyone, everywhere can get access.
This online event will be an opportunity for the CEOs of Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, J&J, Novavax and BioNTech to answer our questions on global equitable access.
This is a Peoples Vaccine alliance event organised by: Just Treatment, Global Justice Now, Health Gap, STOPAIDS and Frontline AIDS.
