The story of Trayvon Martin was covered in the media, shouted out in songs and videos, and cited by the President. His iconic photo, a teenaged boy in a hoodie gazing into the camera, was seen all over the world. The tragic death of Trayvon Martin inspired a transformative movement for justice and healing that is still building around the country. But it didn’t happen on its own. Were it not for the love and courage of his two anguished parents, Trayvon’s story might not be the catalyst for change that it is today. In their new memoir, REST IN POWER: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin offer the true inside story of their son’s life, struggles, and tragic death for the first time. Ultimately, this is the story of how two humble, hardworking parents were powered by love to fight against an indifferent system in order to make their son's life meaningful, even in death.
Join us for a powerful Big Ideas Night with Sybrina and Tracy as they engage in an intimate conversation with The New York Daily News' Shaun King, just before the five year anniversary of Trayvon’s death on February 22, 2017. A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to the Trayvon Martin Foundation, a social justice organization committed to ending senseless gun violence, strengthening families through holistic support, S.T.E.A.M. education, and mentoring for men and women of all ethnicities.
