Big Canyon Bird & Plant Walk
Sat, May 20, 2017, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM PDT
Short walk and talk from a Naturalist in an area where several habitats meet providing great intro for those interested in identifying local flora and fauna of the Upper Newport Bay.
Each tour is unique with startling differences wildlife seen depending on the season and state of the tide. In summer, the open-water skimmers and terns that come here to nest predominate. In winter, there is a huge abundance and diversity of shorebirds, ducks, and grebes that have migrated from Canada and Alaska. Bring sun protection, even in winter, binoculars (if you have them) and good walking shoes.
Free parking/admission. Starts in the Big Canyon parking lot off of Back Bay Drive.
