About The Panel

Mary Balistreri, CEO and president of MBT More Business Today, offers a variety of coaching and professional development services to individuals and organizations focused on harnessing strengths to grow talent and develop more business. Mary's approach is goal driven, focusing on measurable results and developing actionable plans to move past obstacles that hold individuals, teams and organizations back. Mary offers expertise in business development and leadership development coupled with strategies to improve conversational and emotional intelligence to support clients in achieving their goals.

As a child of parents who do not speak English and a sister of two deaf siblings, Elizabeth Colón, president and founder of Metaphrasis Language & Cultural Solutions, has firsthand experience with the struggles faced by those negotiating a new country and culture without being proficient in the language or unable to understand. Getting pulled out of school to interpret for her parents' appointments or unable to communicate with her sisters across the kitchen table was a very difficult scenario for their family. To help others with similar issues, Elizabeth founded Metaphrasis in 2007 with the dream of providing the best translation and interpretation services possible.

For 15 years, Candace Washington, CEO and founder of Pivotal Impact, has guided people and organizations through training, professional development, and culture dynamic initiatives with notable success that increase personal and organizational effectiveness. Along her professional journey, Candace faced barriers to success, lessons and failures struggling to navigate her career that fuel her mission to demystify the workplace, building professional development tools and inclusive ecosystems that empower emerging leaders to thrive. As a diverse leader, she has lived the lessons she teaches and provides skills, pivotal to success in the marketplace for emerging leaders.

About The Moderator

Melissa Lagowski created Big Buzz Idea Group in November 2004 so Chicagoland nonprofits would have an honest outsourcing partner to bring their largest projects to life. After raising nearly $6 million for clients, Melissa is dedicated to providing full operational support that will allow charitable organizations to run more effectively. With 26 years of corporate and nonprofit experience, she has launched and executed large fundraisers, conceived several innovative and lucrative new programs (including virtual conferences and events), coordinated a variety of dinners/awards functions and organized numerous conferences/workshops. Awards and accomplishments include the Woman of Influence by The Chicago Business Journal (January 2016); the NAWBO Chicago Presidential Award of Excellence (2014); and the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Graduate (2013).
