Event description

ECMC is pleased to provide their nationally recognized curriculum and companion training workshop on student success in higher education at Miami's Carnival Center for Excellence.

Currently, only 29 percent of all first-time postsecondary students at two-year institutions and 59 percent of those at four-year institutions graduate within six years. However, the graduation rates are even worse for low-income, first-in-the-family college- students. Low-income students are less than half as likely to earn a bachelor’s degree as higher-income students.

“PERSIST” was created to provide tools to help educators increase the success rates of those students who are the most at risk for dropping out: first-in-the-family college students, those from low-income families, commuter students, and nontraditional age students.

“PERSIST” is a toolkit that provides higher education professionals with strategies to ensure at-risk students have the skills and support necessary to navigate the varied aspects of the college experience

Curriculum Topics:

  • Evaluating institutional retention performance
  • Assessing academic planning and classroom engagement practices
  • Creating programs that help students adjust to college life
  • Paying for college & money management
  • Career planning – building practical experience while in school

Workshop Highlights:

  • Facilitation by professional trainers
  • Highly interactive training environment
  • Innovative applications for curricula implementation
  • Experiential, game-based techniques for teaching fundamentals

NOTE: This is an interactive workshop. Please download a copy of the "PERSIST" curriculum and bring on a tablet or electronic device on the day of the workshop.

If you have questions about the curriculum, email
