Event description
Bainbridge Island Emergency Medical Responder - Wilderness First Responder Certification.

About this Event

Bainbridge Islands Emergency Management strategy combines the resources of the City of Bainbridge Island, The Bainbridge Island Fire Department, Bainbridge Island Police Department, Community Organizations such as Bainbridge Prepares and most importantly community volunteers.

The general plan is for neighborhoods to work on their emergency resilience through the Map Your Neighborhood program, with Emergency Hubs filling gaps in abilities not handled at the neighborhood level.

As a BIEMR (Bainbridge Island Emergency Medical Responder) you are trained as a Wilderness First Responders (WFRs) and are volunteering to staff the Emergency Hubs across Bainbridge Island.  BIEMRs have the responsibility for the medical portion of the Hubs, which will have additional shelter functions as well. Depending on the relative need BIEMRs may take on additional responsibility for managing the Hubs and communicating with Emergency Managers or the Bainbridge Island EOC (Emergency Operations Center).

In order to maintain medical abilities, develop relationships, stay current with Emergency Management policies and procedures, and publicize the Emergency Management program to the public BIEMRs are expected to attend regular meetings and training sessions, staff first aid duties at community events, and participate in interdepartmental exercises and Hub activation drills.

The training in October will be subsidized and cost students $150 for the remaining portion. Because the subsidy is coming from the City of Bainbridge Island students must be City residents. The training will be conducted and certificated by Remote Medical International.  The course is a hybrid of 80 hours, 40 online and 40 onsite. Students must be available for the full onsite training.

Sign-up ends on Sept 23.
