Description

Building Successful University Entrepreneurship Centers

This course provides the knowledge and tools to create a robust, successful entrepreneurial ecosystem within a university environment. Whether you are building a student-focused center or an advanced, technical facility with sector focus area, all aspects of developing, funding, and operating various types of entrepreneurship centers will be covered. Topics will include obtaining administrative “buy-in” to support your entrepreneurship development efforts; outreach to students, researchers and other stakeholders to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors; appropriate tech commercialization models and best practices in migrating research from the lab bench to the market; how to build out services and facilities for university environments; and leveraging regional resources to support university startups and/or companies in the local community.

Attendees will also learn about a variety of granting, donor/sponsorship, and self-funding models, especially from providing technical assistance services or licensed intellectual property, for their programs. Finally, attendees will work through exercises to help identify the best staff for their centers while also finding student or other talent throughout the university community. All participants will develop a blueprint for their center upon conclusion of the course as well as complimentary access for a year, to a number of tools, templates, and other resources in our online community platform, the Exchange.
