The Dummy Clap Film Festival of BHF

This will be the inaugural year of BHF’s own film shindig. The Dummy Clap Film Festival will screen and shed some light on not only films and documentaries about Hip-Hop culture but also filmmakers who embody Hip-Hop’s revolutionary spirit.

On Friday, July 13th, we will be screening films from our independent submissions as well as various shorts from some established filmmakers! There will be a total of (3) screenings blocks throughout the day. Please see the information below for exact times and films to be screened!

During our first block, screenings from independent filmmakers and music video directors will be followed by a presentation of Red Bull Music Academy Presents The Infamous Mobb Deep (2012), and a panel featuring the film's director, producer, and Prodigy of Mobb Deep.

In block two, we will be screening a cut from the directorial debut of Amalgam Digital CEO Anyextee, Egypt Through The Glass Shop. The documentary-in-progress delivers a powerful first-hand account of the Egyptian Revolution - an event which provided crucial inspiration to the Occupy movement - experienced through the journey of a young entrepreneur and talented glass blower who set up a shop in Cairo. The screening will be followed by a discussion with director Anyextee.

Block three will be dedicated to Brooklyn writer/filmmaker Nelson George. We will be screening his shorts, To Be A Black Man (1997) & A Barber's Tale (2008). Next, we'll be screening his 2011 documentary Brooklyn Boheme, an intimate portrait of the black arts movement that exploded in Fort Greene from the mid 1980s through the 90s. The film will be followed by a Q&A with the man of the hour, Nelson George.

• A Barber's Tale
• Brooklyn Boheme
• Live Q&A with Brooklyn writer/director Nelson George

In addition to individual $7 tickets to the above screenings blocks, we are also selling $15 All-Access passes that will grant you admission to all three blocks!

Before Friday's Indie Screenings, join us on Tuesday, July 10th for an old-school double-feature!

We will be screening the 1986 documentary Big Fun in the Big Town, followed by the landmark 1983 Hip Hop film Wild Style. Each film will be followed by a panel discussing their respective films.

Join us for a trip back into time on July 10th, 2012 at the Dweck Auditorium in the Central Branch of the Brooklyn Library, from 6:45 PM to 10 PM.
