Event description

Description

Kick off the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting with the Building Healthy Communities Committee of the Environment Section with a tour of built environments using best practices recognized across the country! The tour will feature knowledge experts from the community on the built environment, community organizing, and government programs.

The stops include:

  • Centennial Parkside Community Development Corporation - revitalizing the East Parkside neighborhood by working with the city of Philadelphia to build parks, as well as keeping businesses and existing residents in the community

  • West Fairmount Park - the Fairmount Park Conservancy works in over 1,000 acres of land with multiple features for residents and visitors, including gardens, a lake, and more

  • Lanier Park - featured park with the Trust for Public Land with features for differently-abled children and stormwater management features

  • A community garden transformed from a vacant lot with Food Moxie

After the tour we will meet for an unhosted Happy Hour, location TBD.
