Join Alvanon in Hong Kong as we partner with the Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator to offer apparel retailers & brands a high-level introduction to sustainability presented by an exceptional team of experts in sustainable practices and resources. 

Sustainability 101

In this course, attendees will learn to build a common language around sustainable practices for your designers and project managers. In our training course, we cover the broad aspects of sustainability and then customize the content to focus in on the specific issues driving strategies in apparel. Our workshop is a full-day agenda that includes presentation lectures as well as interactive and practical work sessions. The content is designed to introduce a sustainability lexicon and key concepts to a broad audience and to communicate the company’s agenda.

Debera Johnson founded the Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator in 2013 as a division of the Center for Sustainable Design Strategies at Pratt Institute. She chaired Pratt’s Industrial Design program from 1997 to 2005 and remains a tenured professor. The BF+DA is a hub for ethical fashion and responsible technology and speaks internationally on these topics.

Tara St James

Production Coordinator, BF+DA

"The hands that manipulate the materials we use are just as important as the quality and sustainability of those materials is a driving force in my business and personal life. As a fashion designer with over 15 years experience producing both domestically and overseas, I have developed a vast understanding of a variety of production systems and manufacturing techniques. My role as production coordinator and research fellow is to facilitate designers’ experience through sampling and production.”

Tara St James is the Production Coordinator, business mentor and research fellow for zero-waste manufacturing at the BF+DA. She is also the founder and creative director of her own fashion line, StudyNY. She is a sought after speaker, critic and thought leader on the topics of sustainable supply chains and zero-waste production.
