Event description

Description

On September 23rd from 5:30 to 8pm, Bedrock will host a public event in the Detroit Design 139 exhibition space called BEYOND THE MOTOR CITY: LEVERAGING DETROIT AS AN INTERNATIONAL REGION. While many local Detroiters tend to define Detroit as a city with 139-square-miles, non-Detroiters extend their definition of Detroit to the full metropolitan area, encompassing half-a-dozen counties with a population totaling about 4.3 million people. That 10,000-foot perspective influences the many economic development leaders who are working to create a collaborative strategic framework and cohesive shared narrative to attract new businesses and industries to our shared region. By expanding our geographic boundaries to Canada, the city can continue to position itself as an international region. Building upon the Detroit Design 139 exhibition theme, INCLUSIVE FUTURES, this event will instigate a conversation that explores how we can collectively provide policymakers with the tools, partnerships and community connections to foster equitable job growth and inclusive economic development.

Speakers:

  • Jake Chidester, Director of Design, Bedrock
  • Ginny Wilkinson, Director of Business Intelligence, Detroit Economic Development Corporation
  • Susan Anzolin, Executive Director, IBLS, Windsor-Essex Economic Development Corporation
  • Trevor Pawl, Senior Vice President, Business Innovation, Michigan Economic Development Corporation
