Mental Health Minnesota has designed four workshops for mental health care providers. Each workshop explores a topic essential to recovery oriented mental health care, through the lens of persons with lived experience. Attend just one or all four and come away with a deeper understanding of how you can foster recovery, wellness, and engagement in the people you work with.

All workshops will include breakfast.

Welcoming Your Peer Colleague
Friday, April 28, 2017, 8 AM to 9:30 AM

Peer support is an essential component of recovery oriented mental health care. Learn about the benefits of hiringCertified Peer Specialists, as well as effective strategies to successfully integrate Certified Peer Specialists into your organization. Workshop presenters: Shelley White, Mental Health Program Consultant, Minnesota Department of Human Services; Shannah Mulvihill, Executive Director, Mental Health Minnesota; Kim Lutes, Program Manager and Certified Peer Specialist, Mental Health Minnesota.

Aiding in a Psychiatric Directive

A psychiatric advance directive is an important planning tool for people with mental illness that is greatly under utilized. You will learn how to encourage and assist your clients to develop their own psychiatric directive.

Engaging Clients in Recovery

Hope is the catalyst of the recovery process, but so often, people living with a mental health diagnosis lose site of the fact that it is possible for them to improve their wellness, live a self directed life, and reach their full potential. This workshop is designed to help those who work with people experiencing a mental health diagnosis choose recovery. The workshop will focus on person-centered planning and motivational interviewing.

Effects of Social Isolation on Physical Health

We often hear about the effects of social isolation and loneliness on mental health, but what about its effects on ones physical health? Lets raise awareness about the increased risk of early mortality caused by social isolation, and start a discussion about intervention strategies that can be used to establish social supports.
