Event description

Be prepared to be inspired! Mental Health Minnesota has designed five webinars for mental health care providers. Each webinar explores a topic essential to recovery oriented mental health care, through the lens of people with a lived mental health experience. Attendees will leave each webinar with a deeper understand of how they can foster recovery, wellness, and engagement in the people they work with.

Thursday April 26, 12pm-1pm:

Preparing For & Preventing Crisis

Let’s talk about mental health crisis. We’ll discuss how you can support your clients in preparing for a potential crisis and in creating a personal crisis plan. During this webinar, you’ll hear from a panel of people who will share their first hand experiences planning for mental health crises, recognizing preemptive signs of crisis, and practicing self-care.

Wednesday June 20, 12pm – 1pm:

Engaging Clients in Recovery: Person Centered Planning

Hope is the catalyst of the recovery process, but so often, people living with a mental health diagnosis lose sight of the fact that it is possible for them to improve their wellness, live a self-directed life, and reach their full potential. This webinar will provide an opportunity for mental health care providers to hear about the benefits of person centered planning directly from people with a lived mental health experience, as well as learn tools to successfully collaborate with their own clients on person centered planning.

Thursday, August 23, 12 PM – 1 PM

Mental Health and Physical Health: The Mind-Body Connection

How can we put what we know about the mind-body connection into practice? We know that mental health and physical health are fundamentally connected, but mental health treatment plans often do not address the barriers that prevent people from maintaining or improving their physical health. We will talk about the current research on mind-body connection and hear firsthand from people who have a lived mental health experience about the barriers they’ve encountered when trying to maintain both their physical and mental health.

Wednesday October 24, 12pm – 1pm

Stigma: It’s More Than the Words We Use

We often talk about stigmatizing language, what is okay to say, and what is not okay to say. What we don’t talk about are microaggressions: the nuanced spectrum of actions and inactions that contribute to the stigma that surrounds mental illness. During this webinar, we will discuss the negative impact of microaggressions and other types of implicit stigma on people living with a mental illness and on overall perceptions of mental illness.

Thursday, December 13, 12pm – 1pm

Effects of Social Isolation on Physical Health

We often hear about the effects of social isolation and loneliness on mental health, but what about its effects on one’s physical health? Let’s raise awareness of the increased risk of early mortality caused by social isolation, and start a discussion about intervention strategies that can be used to establish social supports.

Instructions for joining the webinars will be emailed to you one week prior to each event.
