Beyond Protests and Posters: Creating Safe Spaces for Clients & Communities
Sat, May 6, 2017, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM CDT
This workshop focuses on how we can be allies to and advocates for people of color, the LGBTQ community, Muslim and Jewish communities, immigrants, women and persons with different abilities.
Within hours of the election results being announced and since the 2017 Presidental inauguration, home-grown acts of hate and racism have been directed at children, adults, families and property of the targeted individuals and groups.
This workshop is designed to help professionals such as social workers, therapists, psychologists, nurses, clergy, and teachers learn how each of us can help support and be active participants and allies to groups that are targets of hate and being further oppressed.
We will provide actual steps and activities that you can do to help, in small 1:1 ways (safety plans) and in larger ways (social media campaigns, organizing protests and marches, etc.).
This interactive workshop will provide professionals with tips and tools for practical ways to be advocates in our respective professions, and in our communities.
4 CEUs (1hr Ethics) are available to professionals with the following TX licenses, LCSW, LMSW, LMSW-AP, LPC, and LMFT.
You may also bring a bag lunch if you do not wish to purchase a lunch.
