Description

Seminar: Beyond financial value: managing uncertainty and change to enhance strategic portfolio decisions

Please join us as we welcome Distinguished Visiting Scholar Professor Miia Martinsuo and Doctoral Candidate Lauri Vuorinen (both from Tampere University of Technology, Finland)

Refreshments from 5:30pm for the seminar 6:00 to 7:00pm

Professor Miia Martinsuo will summarise research insights and provide guidance for project portfolio management drawing upon recent studies on the delivery of strategic value through projects. One of the key success factors in project-based business is selecting the projects that fulfil strategic goals over time. The strategic task of converting business priorities and strategies into projects is particularly difficult in dynamic business environments, or when there is disagreement among stakeholders. This seminar will explore the following questions relevant to the leadership task of implementing strategic value in project portfolios:

What is strategic value in a project portfolio and how can it be managed?

How can managers harness uncertainty and change to improve strategic value?

How can managers understand and exploit the dependencies between projects to improve strategic value?

Doctoral candidate Lauri Vuorinen will then briefly overview his findings on multi-project integration practices in organizational change programs. Lauri’s presentation will address:

What is project/program integration and why is integration required in change programs?

What activities and program management roles enable such integration?
